![]() I don't know of any software that translates midis to mandolin exactly, but programs like "Noteworthy" can display a midi file as written music. The violin and mandolin are tuned the same and have the same fingerboard, so any violin music can be readily transfered to mandolin. You can probably do it ok with simple songs and play the melody part of simple hymns, but you aren't going to be able to translate the piano score of the "Maple Leaf Rag" or complex pieces like that to mandolin (although there are people who can and have) unless you are an expert in music composition and arranging. Translating piano music to mandolin can be difficult since piano scores are often very complicated, using a lot of complex intervals and chords, even in the melody lines. Learn the chords on the mandolin and you'll probably recognize them on the piano as you gain experience. ![]() A C-chord is C-E-G (in some combination) on either instrument. ![]() Chords should sound pretty much the same on a mandolin as on a piano (the timbre of the two instruments is different, of course), because they are basically the same notes. ![]()
